Mapping

My cartographic work seeks to create engaging ways of visualizing how change over time unfolds across space. By combining the depth of historical research with the language of maps, I reconstruct past landscapes, trace their transformations, and experiment with innovative methods to narrate historical processes.

Reference maps
I create customized color and black-and-white reference maps for academic and non-academic publications. Each map is designed to work with the text and present the geographical information needed by the authors.

Analytical maps
My research incorporates dynamic maps created with cutting-edge methods to geolocate and visualize spatial information from textual sources such as surveys, travelers’ diaries, and notary records. Far from being mere illustrations, these maps form a core part of my historical analysis.
Participative cartography
My current research combines oral history and mapping to collect, organize, and amplify the historical memories of rural communities and their connections to the land. By treating cartographic language as a storytelling tool, I collaborate with grassroots organizations to support processes of popular education and community communication.
Artistic collaborations
I also collaborate with artists to create aesthetic, pedagogical, and immersive maps of local landscapes. Beyond being striking artistic pieces, these cartographies are designed to be shared with rural communities and to support educational initiatives in rural settings.
